Are you planning to come to work in Ireland?
If so there are still plenty of opportunities for those looking to work here. However there are a few things to bear in mind first. If you don’t have a job orginised before you get here it is a very good idea to have somewhere to live orginised for yourself.
Dublin especially is difficult and very expensive to live and many who arrive in Ireland fall at this first hurdle. Renting a room in a house will cost about €500 per month – and that is sharing with other people. If you want to have somewhere to live on your own budget for at least €1000 per month. If you are heading here from Eastern Europe that is expensive – but once you start working here in Ireland you will find that it is not and that it is fairly average.
Getting a job is still easy, but you do have to put some effort into finding work. If your English is good that will make it easier for you and you will have a better chance of getting a good job.
Write a CV
Having a good CV is a must, all employers will expect a CV from you – so get a CV made up before you arrive here. List your previous jobs, all your experience and all your qualifications. If you are qualified in some particular area you might be disappointed in not getting work in that area – I have worked beside many foreign nationals here who are doing work that is far below their abilities and their experience – this can lead to a lot of disappointment in the beginning.
Get your CV to a few recruitment companies and check out the online jobs boards. Once you start to get interviews with the recruitment companies – which should only take a few days – you will get feed back on any problems that you may have in your CV or your experience.
I hope some of this helps you settle here quicker – what are your job hunting experiences like?
