I’m a true blue Dub, however, lived and worked in the States for quite a few years, and came back a few years ago. Made to move to Galway for a big telecom company and have found that if you are a foreign national e.g. American planning on working on Ireland, you may want to think again.

I’ve know a few Americans who came over only to head back, as they felt the cultural differences / work differences were too great?

I was surprised to hear this, however, I do recall being quite spoiled as to the American work environment. Ireland, as per the work place is progressive, but still lacks quite a bit and you’ll find yourself in a constant state of frustration, as many have worked together for years, and fancy doing things “there way”.

That being said, one has to realize that first off Galway is a very small town, with small ideas and attitudes to match.

Come to Ireland to visit, but to live and work? Personally stay in the U.S., but if you must, you’re best bet (and even there it’s a risk) is Dublin. Ireland is 5-10 years behind the U.S. but doesn’t think so..

American chef w/ over 10 years experience- looking to become an Irish citizen through the naturalization process. I’ve come to understand that one must have a job in country before I even step off the plane. Is this true? If it is, I would be very grateful to anyone who could send me in the right direction toward finding work in the Republic. Cooking is my specialty but I’d probably take any work I could find if it meant I can stay! Thank you

I’m and 18 year old Candian that’s been backpacking around Europe for a little over 4 months now. I’m hoping to go to India later this year, but I need to earn some money. I’m very interested in living and working in Ireland for a month or so in January.

I don’t have any post-secondary education, though I had good grades in high-school. I have had an array of part-time jobs and have worked in aggriculture, and as a camp counsilor for kids. I play the fiddle, madolin and guitar.

Does anybody know what kind of work I should be looking for, and how I should go about finding it? Thanks very much!
