Should You Still Get A Wii Console?

Nintendo broke new ground in the video game market when it released the Nintendo Wii console. With the motion sensitive controller, they took the competition by surprise. It took several years for Xbox and Playstation to come up with their own versions of motion sensitive controllers, but today, they each have their respective pros and cons when you want a new game system.  Should you still consider a Wii console, or should you go with the Xbox Kinect or Playstation Move?

The biggest feature to consider is price. The Wii is still at least $100 less than either of its rivals, even if you buy their basic systems. You can spend a lot more on extra controllers, extra features like Kinect, and also games are more expensive.  The overall cost of an Xbx or Playstation is going to be at least $300 and probably closer to $400. But these systems have high definition and also have a few games available that are not always made for the Wii.  Whether it is worth the trade off will be up to you.

Beyond price, you might consider the games available for each. If you have young children, and want a family game console, you will see that there are many, many  more Wii games are available for kids compared to the other systems.  Nintendo has spent decades developing games with the Mario character and all of his friends, which appeal to the very young with games like Mario Party 8, and on up through tween ages with games like Super Smash Bros.  and New Super Mario Bros.  Adults can have plenty of fun with these too.  For Xbox or Playstation, they do have some of the same games available, such as Disney-developed games, but not as many, especially when you are considering the Kinect or Move.

For teens or adults, the Wii may be too simplistic, and while many games rated T or M are available for the Wii, some are not made for Wii as it does not have the high definition display of the other two.

Beyond games and price, many features are available on all systems.  Netflix now streams movies and television offerings through all three consoles.  You can surf the web on all three, and things like exercise routines and home fitness games are also available now for each.  Once you decide on the features and price that work for you, you can find a system to meet your needs.  Whether you’re a young family with small children, a teen looking for video game thrills, or an older couple looking to get fit at home, any of these game systems can work for you.
