Berkeley Court and Jurys – Top Dublin Hotels Close

From news at Dublin Ireland Dublin

Two top Dublin Hotels closed their doors to the public today after nearly 44 years in business. They did not close because they were not profitable. Hotels are currently being built in every spare piece of land in Dublin – and all over Ireland. No, the land is worth more to a property developer – Sean Dunne of Mountbrook Homes. Dunne purchased the 5 acre site for €360 million 2 years ago, with the intention of building a 32 story skyscraper – a project doomed to fail in this leafy neighbourhood.

The Dublin site is bang in the middle of the most expensive residential and embassy district in Dublin. It was never going to happen, I know this – so I must be wrong. The planning for the development has been turned down by Dublin City Council – so far.

The contents of the hotels will be auctioned off on Friday. The gossip on the streets is that the buildings will be levelled before Christmas – and then the pressure will start. An empty site lying there as an eye sore in the most prestigious area in Ireland, again, never going to happen.

These apartments if built will over look the American Embassy, be within firing range of the British Embassy, and the British have already had their embassy burned down once here in Dublin. With the current threat of terrorism that we all live under – these apartments would over look almost all the embassy’s in Dublin. The developers also have to go up against the most wealthy in the country who live in their quiet beautiful, low level, tree lined streets of Ballsbridge, Dublin.

This saga has been ongoing for two years now, it will be a while before it is over. In the past money would just have changed hands and the planning permission would have just appeared, but apparently not now. Watch this space…
