The ADVC-300 is easy to use and the most reliable VHS to DVD video converter on the market. It is a video converter for the home video maker converting his or her family’s old home movies from analog formats. Here is why it has such a great reputation.
It all starts with its special video codec that it uses to encode the digital video signal from the analog signal as it is being converted. The codec does not only convert the analog video – it actually enhances the video image. The converter equipment uses digital noise reduction and image stabilization with an LTBC (line time base corrector). The video is input into a buffer and there it is corrected before it is output as a digital video signal. The unit connects analog video to either 6 pin or 4 pin FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394) inputs on a computer. The ADVC-300 is compatible with a variety of PC and Mac based editing software packages.
Note: If you are converting film to DVD (that is 8mm to DVD or Super 8 to DVD), you will not be able to use the ADVC-300 to capture that analog film. The ADVC-300 is only for video.
COMPATIBLE VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE PACKAGES
- Apple Final Cut Pro
- Apple iMovie
- Avid Liquid and Xpress DV
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Windows Movie Maker
The ADVC-300 is compatible with NTSC and PAL and it can input and output an analog video with S-Video or composite video (RCA) connectors. The following computer system requirements are recommended, though. Adhere to these guidelines to make sure that your digital transfer goes smoothly as you transfer VHS to DVD.
WINDOWS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- Pentium III or newer
- 128 MB of memory
- 4 MB of disk space
- Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4 or newer)
- Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1 or newer)
- Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate (Service Pack 1 or later)
- Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate
- DirectX 8.0 or later
MAC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- Mac G3 or later (Intel microchips are later so they will work, of course)
- 128 MB of memory
- 4 MB of disk space
- Mac OS X (10.2.7/10.2.8/10.3/10.4.x/10.5/10.6)
You could always spend extra money to hire an expensive transfer service but wouldn’t you rather save that money? The $400 cost for the ADVC-300 is not so bad compared with what you would pay a transfer service.
